PROM QUEEN & The TvGuide Awards

Promqueen_2 Why are we blogging about season 1 of the nominated web series PROM QUEEN?  If you watched, you'll have a good idea.  Last Season, the entire cast loved sippin' on prominently placed POM Juice, POM Tea and Fiji water (our sister company) because our juice and tea is super delicious...and oh yeah, the reason...POM was their launch sponsor for the 80-episode web series that aired on MySpace last summer--everyday for 90 seconds. Perfect right?

You can thank former Disney CEO Michael Eisner and his newly formed production studio, Vuguru. The  production of PROM QUEEN is the first of many to be developed and produced by Vuguru, which was founded by another Eisner venture, The Tornanate Company.

Back on track, the series is nominated for not one, but two TvGuide awards! Best original Drama series and Best Web Actress,  Laura Howard. To cast your vote for the series, just visit TV Guide.com. Or... simply click one / or both of the linked categories below.

Where's the Cup Holder for My POM Tea?

I cashed in my bar mitzvah money and bought a special car (see below), only to discover it doesn't even have cup holders!

How can I drive and drink my POM Tea? I feel cheated.

Roger O. Thornhill. What does the O stand for?

Triothumb1Images116Finally: someone else who shares my appreciation for great design. (Ordinarily, I provide a trip-tick for readers neatly highlighting our journey on this unpaved, collapsing freeway, but this time - purely out of spite - I have chucked my yellow marker and let the map fly away. We're on our own, children. The only thing between us and the open road is a radar gun and an overzealous sheriff. Buford T. Justice, to be exact.)

We now return to our originally scheduled programming: "Great Design and POM Wonderful". In searching the blogosphere, I stopped by the site for Vanity Fair's James Wolcott, whom I consider to be a master prose stylist. Well, he linked to this post by Lance Mannion, about the latter's nostalgia for the Sixties. More to the point, Mannion longs for the early Sixties, which were really the late Fifties (emotionally, if nothing else), where cinema celebrated a particular aesthetic. Call it Hitchcockian elegance, personified by Cary Grant in "North by Northwest," which was released in 1959. Mannion loves the timeless yet approachable look of the decade. Here's a product that would have been as coveted then as it is today: POM Wonderful Tea. Cheers.

p.s. What does the "O" stand for?

A True "Colortini": A Toast to a Great Broadcaster

Triothumb952851888_a67e88cef7_mAs some of you may know, I believe time spent watching TV deserves a great beverage. There are certain programs, just as there are specific films, that compel the viewer to fully enjoy himself: find a comfortable chair, loveseat, couch or recliner, have some snacks nearby and appreciate the pleasures of an ice cold drink. My personal favorite, as if my posts about this subject were not many and clear, is POM Wonderful Tea. I love the stuff. Now, about a TV show that naturally suits my preferred refreshment: anything hosted by Tom Snyder, a conversationalist of exceptional talent. Tom, and I feel awkward referring to him by his first name because we never met but "Mr. Snyder" is no more correct than referring to "Johnny" as "Mr. Carson," recently passed away. But his shows, through the power of technology and the convenience of the Internet, are still with us. Tom always encouraged his guests to have a "Colortini" and watch as the pictures fly through the air. Well, my Colortini must include some POM Wonderful Tea. Cheers

Time Travel Perfected

TriothumbImages64I called D. Emmett Lathrop "Doc" Brown this morning about his tests concerning time travel. This subject is personal because, if Doc Brown is successful (and I hope he is), then I can travel back to the Seventies to secure some coveted items and achieve world peace. World peace? Yes, complete tranquility and total enlightenment. How? With my stash of POM Wonderful Tea! Trust me: the stuff would have had us on a hill in Italy teaching the world to sing. One other thing, I'd stop at my local Child World to get some Batman Mego dolls. Cheers!

Diana Krall Is Amazing and POM Wonderful Is . . . Well, Wonderful

Pom2thumb_2Images56_2Diana Krall is absolutely amazing. No surprise there. I have been a fan of hers for years, never having had the chance, minus one justifiably expensive concert she performed at Royce Hall at UCLA (I passed, to my everlasting regret) for some charitable event, to see her live. At her best, and that qualification is itself somewhat redundant because she is always excellent, Diana Krall makes you happy to be alive; amidst all the stress, anxiety, fear, tumult and speed of life, her beautiful voice - and equally exquisite skills as a pianist - evokes a sort of relaxed elegance. Call it bygone Hollywood glamor, or the American Century with a fine silk tie and a perfectly folded hankerchief. Whatever it is, and it is as real and as emotionally resonant as anything I can imagine, her voice is a gift; it makes you want to enjoy a great drink and simply toast the pleasures of undeniable talent. Well, I saw Diana Krall a few days ago at the Hollywood Bowl -- and she was incredible! I am in awe of her. I also brought two bottles of POM Wonderful Pomegranate Peach Passion White Tea. The evening was hot, the drinks cold. A perfect night. Thank you, Diana Krall. Cheers to POM Wonderful.
